Other Northern California Buddhist Centers

Northern California is fortunate to have several NKT centers, providing many rich and varied opportunities to begin and strengthen our practice. In addition to Mahakaruna, which covers the broad region of northern California from Petaluma, Novato and Sacramento all the way up to the Oregon border, there are four other centers which cover the San Francisco Bay area. You can visit each center's web site by clicking on the Center's name.

Saraha Buddhist Center: San Francisco, Pacifica

Until the spring of 2005, when Mahakaruna became an independent center, Mahakaruna was a branch of Saraha. Saraha is our mother center, and it is through the faith and kindness of Saraha that Mahakaruna was formed and grew to the point where it made sense to become independent. We are grateful to Saraha for their ongoing support and loving kindness. Also, they have great cooks down there!

Please visit Saraha's web site to see what cool things they have to have to offer. Check out a class or day course when you're in the city.

Dzalandhara Buddhist Center: Berkeley, Oakland, Lafayette

Dzalandhara Buddhist Center is located in the vibrant city of Berkeley. Previously a branch of Saraha Buddhist Center in San Francisco (the mother Center in northern California), it recently became an independent Center.

The Center is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood. You'll know you've arrived when you see the 3-foot statue of Buddha in the window!

Duldzin Dragpa Buddhist Center: Palo Alto, San Jose

Duldzin Dragpa Center is currently located in a peaceful house in a residential neighborhood near Blossom Valley. Here we hold our day courses, pujas (chanted meditations) and our Foundation Program. It is also a very friendly space for socializing.

Dewikoti Buddhist Center: Corte Madera, San Rafael

Ven. Geshe Kelsang gave us the name “Dewikoti”, which is the name of a Buddha's Pure Land, a realm beyond suffering that we can attain by purifying and transforming our mind. It is an appropriate name for a Center in beautiful Marin County!

At present, we do not have a permanent location for the Center. However, we hope to find one over the next year or two. With the support and interest of local members, we are confident that we will soon have a beautiful home of our own in Marin, so that we can offer a wide range of classes, retreats, day courses, in-depth study programs and so on!
